rialto restaurant & bar

Nicki’s 21st birthday this year was during restaurant week in Boston. We had a few other friends that had already been to Rialto and said their prix fixe menu was tasty this year. They have prix fixe menus all year round though that they change every few months or so. Rialto Restaurant & Bar is located on the second floor of the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square. http://www.rialto-restaurant.com

  • since we went to rialto over the summer, there was still lots of daylight at dinnertime. the space was separated into a few rooms, which made it feel more personal. the set up and decorations were very simple and classic.

  • nicki breaking the roll in half to share. =)

  • the chef gave these complimentary starters in a shot glass. it was some vegetable-herb soup mix that was bitter. fail at taking a picture before we drank it.

  • nicki's first course was a mixed greens salad with radishes and flower petals drizzled with a simple vinaigrette. it was very light with mild flavors. the flower petals were a pretty touch.

  • tim's first course was a corn risotto with mushrooms. this was our favorite dish. it was creamy, but not heavy and the mushrooms gave it enough savoriness. nom nom nom.

  • tim's entree was pork with a variety of vegetables. the meat was very tender, the sauce was rich, and the vegetables gave it a nice crunch.

  • nicki's entree was trout over a bed of potatoes, greens, and bacon. there was a light cream sauce over the fish. this was surprisingly not heavy or oily as we expected it to be. the vegetables were seasoned very lightly to enhance the sauce and fish flavors.

  • dessert! by now, the restaurant put on some

dessert! by now, the restaurant put on some "mood lighting" and the sun was setting, so it was hard to get a good picture. in the back, there is a tiramisu-like cake with fruit. in the front is a chocolate cake paired with a raspberry sauce and whipped cream. both were absolutely delicious.

Atmosphere
Large windows surround the space creating a very natural environment. Since we went to rialto over the summer, there was still lots of daylight at dinnertime. The space was separated into a few rooms, which made it feel more personal. The set up and decorations were very simple and classic.

Service
The service was really great. Since it was restaurant week, it was pretty crowded for a Monday night.

Food
Overall, the food at Rialto was delicious - the flavors were very light, simple, and classic. We definitely plan on going back there again.
